Anthem Day 1

Equality 7-2521 was taught as a child to recite a pledge which states: "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." What do you think happens to the personality and sense of individuality in a child when he or she is taught that he/she is nothing? Explain in a clear topic sentence that discusses WHAT you think happens and WHY. Then, explain with examples and discussion supporting your ideas. End with a concluding sentence.

    In the book Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, The concept " you are nothing unless you have your brothers", is taught to the the main character. I personally think that if you teach a child that when they are young, they will honestly remember that for the rest of their lives. The child will always think that it is impossible to go through anything with the strength of themselves. I think of a young boy wanting to do everything by himself, but cant because he is young and useless without others, when i read this story. Just like the boy wanting to be independant and to do everything by himself, the main character, eqaulity, wants to do the same with his life. The book Anthem is a metaphor, i think, of taking something that seems to be useless by itself, and making it something bigger and better than life itself.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand the line "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." is given to the children when they are younger to remember for the rest of their lives. I believe that when a child is taught that they are nothing,they have are challenged to accept the fact that being in a group of mankind is more important then being themselves. They are taught that the creativity and ways of doing things are not as important as living by the rules and practices said to us in this book. Each child has their life chosen for them, they can't use themselves as a support, but they must rely on others. The line saying that all men are equal would mean that the quote stated before says that all men are nothing. This is proven wrong when some children are given the job of being a "leader" and then they must become something to later become authority. This line clearly could be the beginning of a child once known as nothing could later turn in to being himself and actually feel that he/she is is worth something.

    The pledge in the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand is about that you're nothing without your brothers has been teached to the main character. In my opinion, that child who's been taught this way will never have a good life. Because he will remember this forever, the child will remind himslef that he's worthless without other people, which means when the child have to do something alone he couldn't do it. My feeling when I read that part, I think it's sad for a child to think that way for the rest of his life. Like my life when I was young, nobody wants to help me at school or play with me, but when I got older, I tried to change that. The book "Anthem" is a moral, saying never be afraid to try to make a difference.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand the pledge, "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." has to be recited. I think that when you teach a little child that they are nothing, it makes them think of themselves poorly, and they never get a chance to have a normal life. In the book, Equality 7-2521, was taught from a young age that he was nothing. In these days if you taught a child that from the time they were an infant, then the child would always look down on himself, and have a very bad self-esteem. He would also never be able to live a normal life. He could never be like his peers. In my opinion it would just make hid life hectic. Life is already hard enough. People make you feel like you are nothing all the time and it just brings you down. If the child was taught this from an early age, then there would be no way that he could recover from this false accusation. I obviously feel that it is not a good idea for anyone to teach a little kid that they are nothing. It will just lead to misery as they get older.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand the line "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." I think when you teach a child at a young age that he/she means nothing they will grow bored of their lives and probably have insanity issues. It is also not good to their health that they know they mean nothing because who wants to take care of them self if they mean nothing to the world. The kids would be depressed and want to just do nothing. They are even told to do a job and how enthusiastic could they be if they were told they mean nothing. To sum it all up the personalaty and individuality will be lost in a depressing mood.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand the prayer society is taught is
    "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." I think this changes a individuals personality because they are taught that they are nothing. Not only does this make the individual think that dieing for one group instead of another individual they are going to die happy weather they like it or not.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand he creates the belief that all must believe that they are simply nothing.I believe that this belief would cause several problems to a person who believed in this. Such as they have very little to no self confidence or determination. They have no control over their own decisions. This could also cause a problem down the road such as if they were rewarded for something they would have no way of acting or responding because they have never felt real feelings before because of the ways they have been taught.

    "Anthem" by Ayn Rand the line stated "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state. Amen." Gives a dark presence of a religion, but if taught to a child, it is hard to imagine a reaction, for many children are taught and told what to do because we have nothing else to follow. Since children are taught these things, I think they overall would believe and learn this, making them almost programmed like robots. If I were told I was nothing, I would fight back and feel sadness and sorrow, yet as a child we live in a society in which we need people to tell us what to do and believe, because most older than us know more than we do. I guess that is why they are taught at young age, to follow order before they learn to much and become their own person with self identity and will. There is no reaction as a child, only follow, when we are taught something new that we can actually grow into learning, a lead into life, that nothing is something we think we can live by. That is what I think in response to the quote in "Anthem".

    in the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand he creates the belief that all kids must believe that they are nothing. but i think that if you teach kids to believe in this when they get older they will remember that, and they will have no confidence in him or her self. this would also be a problem later on because if they get like a prize or something then they will remember that they are worth nothing and they would have no reaction to it and won't have feelings because they have no feelings,and never have felt anything like that because of the way they where raised and were taught.

    In the book "Anthem" the children are taught that they are nothing without their brothers. This make their personality all the same, and their personality comes from the teachers and the way they act. To me this seems like a very boring life style. They can't express themselves. This teaching makes them lean on each other for things and they can't determine on themselves. If I was taught like that, and I was grouped with the same amount of people my whole life. I wouldn't believe that I could do anything on my own or by my decision.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand, It has the kids say a pledge that they are all the same and they are nothing without there brothers.As stated here "We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by, and for our brothers who are the state". In my opinion i think if you were taught to think of yourself as nothing then you would not try to disobey the law and or try to be different in any sort of way. It will also create a more organized, structured society allowing people to work together rather than going off task and slacking off. Which is what I think the government is trying to reach here. As far as the child's sense of personality and individuality goes i think there would be none of it left.

    In the book "Anthem"written by Ayn Rand, The concept "you are nothing unless you have your brothers" is taught to the main character. I believe when a child is taught something at a young age, it sticks with them for the rest of their lives. Just like school students, they knew from the start that when the bell rings its time to go, so we quickly react and get up and leave. In the book they are taught that a group is more important than an individual. That they can not be an individual. You are only important when you are with a group.Of course they do not know better, because they were taught that so young. They also believe at a young age what they are told because we know that our elders know what's right and wrong, we know to look up to elders as they are the ones who give us our knowledge.

    In the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand, it states the all the children in the this city are taught that things don't exist and that they has nothing. i believe that this can changed the personality greatly because we are taught that we have things and we like those certain things and dislike others, but if we didn't know about those things we would know who we really are. and all of us would be the same pretty much. In chapter one the writer tells the reader about this world that there is nothing and all will we equal i don't like this thinking because we would not know who are.

    In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand there is a pledge, the children must say everyday that states; they must believe that they are nothing. This must really effect the kids because you are brainwashed into truely thinking that you are nothing. As an individual they are not significant. This must really cause a confidence issue. What if you told yourself everyday that you are nothing?

    The book anthem tells of a futuristic society where the people are rather ignorant. There taught to follow and not question. All them are taught that with your brothers your are everything without you are nothing. But on bad seed is the main focus of the story and I think may be the savior of these sad people

    "Anthem", a book written by Ayn Rand all the children say a pledge, stating that they are nothing. its kind of like our pledge of allegiance, they say it every morning of every day. its like the children are being brainwashed, that way nobody thinks that they are worst than anybody, witch is good to an extent. In the end being different is a sin.Growing up not knowing anything except that they are worthless is bad.
